texture problem

I would like to texture a created surface. After selecting it, I linked a texture to it under world button/Texture/add new. Afterwards, I loaded a jpg file as a texture in the texture buttons. This texture is displayed and rendered correctly, only in game mode, this texture vanishes, Instead, I only see a shaded surface. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial or tell ma what Iā€™m doing wrong?

The GameEngine uses only UVMapped Textures.
