Texture Symmetry in game models

To reduce the amount of space needed for the texture, but maintain quality I tend to just mirror over the texture. Now with something such as leather, Would this be ideal? What is your recommendation… Reduce quality but make it to where you can’t notice where the mirror’s seam is? Or do your best with post editing and try to make it less-obvious?

if you are using a complex looking texture like your leather texture, there is virtually no way to eliminate the mirrored look. you can reduce it with texture painting and cloning, but where there is contrast, the eye will always detect symmetry. it’s less noticeable on the shirt texture because it’s more even and has less variation.
(edit) also, you could put some laces there, since they are symmetrical.
