Texture tools not working properly or problem with the UV map

Howdy, I’m Candi! I couldn’t find a solution to this problem anywhere on Google so I purposely made an account here to get some help!
I only got into Blender about two days ago so I apologize if the solution is painfully obvious xD

Basically I have this character model that I’ve been working on and so far I haven’t had any problems texturing him as you can see in the hair, eyes etc, but when it comes to the Head, it only allows me to paint on the ears.

The ears were done after the head and then joined into a single object and this is my UV map

I can colour the details of the face on the map itself, but that is not very practical for me, so I was wondering how I could fix it so I could paint directly on the model.

Also I have noticed that the face has a really dark shading compared to all the other objects and it’s really distracting so I was wondering how I could fix that as well!

All help is a appreciated!

The polygons on the head are facing inside. Edit mode, select all, ctrl+N to make normals consistent and pointing out.

Example .blend is missing from your post and you’re using cropped screenshots which hides information. Tutorial linked in my signature shows how to prepare and upload a .blend.

Oh thank you so much, that fixed it!! <3

Also thank you for the tutorial, I’ll keep that in mind next time I make a post here.
