Textured Mesh for 3D Printing

Hi, I’m very new to Blender. I need to create a textured object to be 3D printed. Is there a way I can import a texture and apply it to my mesh so that the mesh changes to become textured? Thanks!

Displace modifier http://www.blender.org/manual/modifiers/deform/displace.html
Your model will have to have enough polygons be be displaced by your texture so having a subsurf modifier ABOVE the displace modifier may be needed, as long as your mesh is suitable
