Heres a Noooobish question
Heres an example of what I want todo.
i have imported a VRML file I created in solidworks no problem got that .
Scaled it no prob
horizontal sufaces i want texture going length ways
verticle surfaces I want it to go vertically
simple?
Now to apply textures do i need to have a material applied?
One of the tutorials i did said yes It is a requirement . OK so why?
what it the purpose of having a material applied just so you can attach a texture to your chosen surfaces? :o
in a manner of speaking, yes. However, simple for me is turning on my PC, pouring a cup of coffee, petting my cat, ya know, stuff like that.
yes.
A material tells Blender that you want to color it somehow someway someday anyhoo
Because a texture can afffect many many different things about the way an object appears, and the material governs it. Otherwise, all the textures would run around like my two kids hyped up on sugar, knocking over the plants, chasing the cat, screaming and shooting platic darts that stick to my head, ya know, mayhem would ensue. The material is like my wife who says HEY and those screaming lunatic midgets just like magically stop in their tracks and look at her, and then she lines them all up and makes them behave. That is what a material does to textures.
And I think this is my 500th post. I really enjoy helping people, especially in a humorous way, and I hope that everyone reading this gets a little kick out of using Blender to achieve their artistic dreams. BlendOn!

oh. right. sorry. that helps explain it. alot. really. crystal clear now. I’m gonna go pet my cat now, okay?
(thank God I am not technical )
Thanx for the humouruos reply (I like cats to they taste good in sandwiches).
Thing is in the likes of solidworks when you apply a texture to a surface (I know different program) it is as easy as rmb on said surface(s) popup appears click on apply texture , choose texture click ok done .
To me (and I have been using blender for all of 5mins;) ) it seems that there is alot of extra clicks that to me seem unnessacary almost like there needs to be a rethink on how things are done. I’m not having a rant here or putting down all the efforts of the programmers ok ,it just seems to me that blender has all this potential and from some of the art work i have looked at is amazing, but I think blender could be a lot more “intelligent” and or intelligently set out .
this is not the reason i asked my question though , wat i want is to be led to a tutorial or given an example of multiple textures on a single object (not multi materials I understand that)
Any help would be appreciated because I see the potetial here just need the info to use this wonderful tool:)
