Textures and Materials Not Rendering

Hello,

I posted a similar question earlier, but the file was linked at the bottom of the thread.

I am having troubles rendering both materials and textures with this file. It is a smaller version of a larger project with the same settings. In this one I have one tree that was appended, and one sphere with red material. Both render black.

Any help would be appreciated. Here is the file - http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18288

In the Render / Layers panel, remove the Material set to override all materials on that layer. It is currently set to be Material.002
