I recently saw some textures on Poliigon with Diffuse/Gloss/Normals/Reflection maps (I guess?). I don´t have the money for a membership, so I thought “why don´t make them in GIMP?”
Yeah, okay. I´m using InsaneBump, good tool, but there aren´t gloss or reflection maps. But there are occlusion and specular maps. Is it the same?
they are the same but they are not the same… the difference is minor, but both can be used.
however, creating your own textures wont always give you a good result. keep in mind the textures on poliigon were created by professionals, and often even photoscanned.
