Is there a way to get access to textures and custom properties for textures in Cycles yet?

I have a script that will load a model in Blender. All works as expected in Blender Internal. However, I eventually want to move to cycles for the responsiveness. Currently when I choose cycles, it goes down to the material level, which looks as if it has the texture applied. I can get to the texture level by some roundabout way, but there is no texture and the custom properties for the texture level are not present.

So, is there a way to currently access this or do I have to wait for pynodes, which appears to have the capability to store custom properties?
