Textures not being rendered in 3dview

Trying to UV map this Sci Fi door object. Now for some reason a part of the object is completly black. Dont know how to get rid of it. Renders as expected though.

Problem: How to make whole object “visible”?

You have deleted the vertex colors on this area of the mesh. select the whole mesh, select white in the vertex paint pannel and click on the "SetVertC"button. Viewport textured shading restored.

I noticed that when having textures, the button “make” [vertcol] (Mesh tools i think it was) produces shadows, but it doesnt seem to make any “vertcol”, since the button “make” still remains “make” (instead of “delete”). Is it supposed to be like that?
