I recently installed Blender version 2.49b and since then, this is the third model I’ve had problems with the UV Textures not showing up in the UV Window.
I can select an object in object mode and then if I open up an image in the UV Window in appears. However, as soon as I enter edit mode, the image disappears and does not come back until I hit a serious of random buttons. Usually CTRL-Z makes the image reappear, but not always. When this starts to happen, I can’t create a new image or open an image from within the UV Mapping Window.
Even though the image does not show up, sometimes it is still there because if I render the model, I see the texture, but its just not aligned correctly.
I’ve attached a .blend file with the images packed to demonstrate this issue. In that file, I’m trying to make the top of the model look like the Background Image. The beige texture is packed in, but the brown texture is not because I could not get Blender to properly import it. Either way, you should see the issue I’m talking about with the beige texture.
Have you tried the same with Blender 2.5x? To make a texture look right in an object you have to follow a few steps and make sure you do everything ok, it’s not just to select an object and go into the UV Editor window. The process is:
Select an object and jump into Edit Mode.
Select all polys and press U followed by a mapping option, as Unwrap, for instance. This will create a UV channel where the polys are mapped and ready to receive a texture.
Step out of Edit Mode and add a material to the object followed by a texture to the material.
Configure the texture so it uses the UV channel previously created.
Go into Edit Mode and pop the texture in the UV Editor so you can map the polys correctly.
Check the Outliner window to see if
This process is ok for 2.4x and 2.5x but of course with a slightly different interface. That’s about it for texturing objects and showing those textures correctly in the UV Editor window.
So I followed nearly all of ptbbastos instructions and it did not resolve the issue. I still needed to hit CTRL-Z to make the texture appear. The one step I couldn’t figure out was how to link the UV texture to the UV Channel. I’ll figure that tomorrow with a different model and see if that is the issue. Also, I have not tried this with 2.5.
As for ridix, when I do get an image to show up, my toolbar looks exactly like yours.
CD38: Tomorrow, I’ve got one other model to fix, so I’ll try your idea then.
Some more help: once the image appears you can pin it to the UV Editor window. Just click the pin button next to the image name slot. This way it will be always showing that image until you release that button.
I can cross off having a background image as the source of the problem. I tried a different model without a background image and the same thing occurred. CTRL+Z seems to be the magical button. I’m going to try 2.5 later today.
Just a quick update. This problem still exists and I’ve been trying to see if it occurs in Blender 2.53 as well, but I’ve been having problems with the interface being empty. I’ve currently got another thread for that issue.
