I would like to learn on how to texture and material the knife that I have modeled in Blender. If some one could spare some time to help me learn it will be great.
I am attaching the original image and the blender model. Please help.
To create a material, select the object, go intro the properties panel and click the ‘Material’ button (The one that looks like a slightly reddish circle.), then click the ‘+New’ button. A bunch of settings and stuff will appear.
Maybe a couple of the tutorials under the ‘Materials’ section on Blender.org can help:
This tutorial here looks like it could help you out:
How do I get a more realistic render for the knife
That’s really general; there are so many things that you can do, like using Blenders textures to create good materials, or importing different textures that are already finished and mapping them to the separate parts of the model… However for the details of the knife in the photo reference you’ll need to learn at least one of the following:
a.) good sculpting
b.) good texture painting (in blender)
c.) really good image mapping (if you’re making the ornate details in an image editing program, like Photoshop)
this is all assuming that you don’t have a great knowledge of what I mentioned, because if you did you probably wouldn’t need much help on how to texture you’re model. Good places to start learning are blenderguru.com, blendernerd.com, blendercookie.com, and so on… Blender’s internal texturing options could get you through the base material of the entire model, but like I said those fancy details will take some time to create (or you could try photo shopping the details from the reference image onto a new white image, making an alpha for the details… though that wouldn’t get you far with creativity IMO).
