I’ve been working on a simple project, modelling low-poly submarines. I would like to texture these two subs so that they are game ready; that is to say that the final texture be a simple uv image. Any ideas on the simplest/easiest/best looking way to achieve this?
The models are roughly 500 vertices each, plus subsurf.

Thx for the input.
P.S. The model will be shown from a relative distance, so an incredible amount of detail is not necessary. It just has to look decent form afar.
first click ‘smooth’ shading in your tool shelf, to give it a more smooth appearance and see that the normals are all facing in the proper direction, then UV map it, bake in some occlusion, and use project modifier or projection painting to ‘decal’ it if necessary. so, look into UV mapping / Unwrapping, Ambient Occlusion, Texture Painting, Projection Painting, and Render Baking.
Right right, but wouldn’t I have to make a texture first? You know… so I have something to bake? I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction to getting a sort of metallic texture on it. Any relavent tutorials would be greatly appreciated.
