I just started using blender about a week ago and after a few tutorials, i was suprised about the things i coud do with it. I made a railroad by beveling. I can’t texture the rails seperately from the wood blocks :x . every time i try they end up having the same texture.
this is how its made:
rails made by beveling w/bezier curve
rails are parent of the wood blocks–> blocks made by dupliframes
When an object is made a parent of another, does it take on the textures too? Any help would be appreciated
Hi stateq2, parenting doesn’t usually influence the textures of objects.(That I know of.)
Have you tried entering EDIT mode for your 1 wood block (the 1 that’s being dupli’ed) and assigning 1 texture to all verts in the block. Then Exit EDIT mode, and repeat for the track piece using your 2nd texture(unsure if it would need to be the Bev Obj or the Bez curve).
If this won’t help you, the only other thing I can think of would be to Un-Parent each piece, apply textures to each individually then Re-Parent everything.
Unless you’re going to animate your tracks to hop, skip and jump and need them to maintain their relationship, I can’t think of any reason to parent them, but I’m open to education.
To solve the texture problem, select only the tracks (the ties should be black) and select a material then a texture. Then do the same for the ties. To get rid of unwanted materials and textures LMB the X where you select them, till they end up with an 0 in front of them then do Ctrl-W, Ctrl-O. Do the same to get rid of textures.
Thanks Fligh, you made me realize that I made a simple mistake. i had the tracks’ datablock linked w/ the ties (thats what those wood blocks are are called ) I’m still learning. thanks for reply’n (sonix too)
