I have a nice landscape I have modeled and would like to know if anyone knows of any good ways to unwrap/texture it, for I am having trouble with both…
Thanks!-YA

can we see it? theres no good way to tell you to UV unwrap without seeing it
Sure. The higher-res one is on the first layer… I’m only using that one for normal maps/Ambient Occlusion baking. I plan to do a lot with this. I want a nice big zoom scene… But of course I’ll need to texture it appropriately for that.
A link from my dropbox:
hmmm ill take a look at it, will post in a little after i look
very good landscape, and you are correct about the high poly surface…looks good…the best thing to do is create texture brushes and use those to paint texture on your vertices (its just like sculpting, only with your texture on top of your mesh)
and i would also make a few alpha maps from the top and side veiws to lower your poly count, and maybe try a bit of specmapping as well…theres tutorials that are great for all of these things, but theres a good spec map one on blenderguru about bullets that you might find pretty high quality …and to keep your privacy of this mesh…im deleting it from my computer and will redownload later if you need any more help
Here my attempt at texturing an ANT generated landscape.

how did you do the vertex group?
i mean did you manually select all faces at certain height and set a new vertex group ?
or make a script to do that ?
and can you explain how this is working ?
thanks
looks like its working correctly, seems you have a little troubleoccuring on the other mountain though, might wanna look at it
