Lo all!
Please excuse me if I use the wrong terminology, I’ve only just started with texturing but I’ll try to be clear with what I want to do. First of all, the current WIP:
This was modeled by using an image of the side profile of the gun and ‘trace’ modeling it, and then manipulating it along the other axis in 3D as best I could for things like the grips and indentations in the guns. The texture was mapped the same way. I used the ‘project from view’ setting and used lined it up with the same image to add the texture. This worked great, and I’m very happy with it in all but a few places.
I would like to fix the point where the barrel sticks out of the gun, as you can see how the texture from the image ‘wrapped’ around to the front because of how I did this, it’s unrealistic as that indentation is not there on the real gun. Same with just below that, and along the front and back of the grips as well.
What I specifically would like to do is take what I currently have and bake that texture to a different UV that has been flattened out the way you would normally expect to see something like this unwrapped. Then once I have the current texturing baked to the new image I can bring it in to Gimp and do the cleanup and finishing touches I need. I’m just not sure how to go about it.
Gotta head for class, I’ll check back soon. Sorry it was so long.
