Hello,
I am kidn of new Blender user. I have no trouble with modeling but texturing is way out of my skills. I mean I know little about it but I can’t manage to get some realistic to this.
Specialy for the buttons.
I don’t see anything that needs to be a texture - looks like you could use the transparent cubes over solid cubes (materials) and the solids would show through the transparent.
If there is writing on them, we can’t see anything in this reference.
Looks okay, but I’d suggest before going any further, get rid of the default world color of blue - set up a cool background image as a texture in the world space, set to zenith up and down, and maybe set this thing on a plane to be a desk top or something. I don’t know much about yafray, but I know that BI can handle the kind of image you are trying to make. For the plastic buttons over the colored cubes, bevel them to get the shape and extrude them inward, just a little, to get the thickness of the transparent object. Then you can play with the transparency settings and the amount of refraction and limit to get it approximate. Also, try a procedural texture like cloud, mapped real small like scale 4, and set it to nor only. You can play with the slider, and get that tiny surface bump that plastic seems to have. You might try using subsurf after you have bevelled the clear parts, especially since the buttons you are trying to emulate are rounded a little.
Good job so far, really accurate placement - I like your dials knobs!
