Alright, this is not what you would expect from reading the word ‘beast’.
It is something very simple & sweet, ready to be improved:
Heh, that’s cool. Will the little bobby thing on his head have soft-bodies?
Something I did notice was that the space under his cheek-bones seems to be sucked in a bit, and maybe his wings should taper forward a little, but these are all minor adjustments. On the whole, I like it.
I would agree with Boe. See if you can’t round him out a little bit, especially under the eyes (not necesarily take away the divets, but make them less noticable). It migth take some smoothing on the whole; e.g. the edge loop from the beak (sp?) to the wing, the edge loop(s) the go from the top of his head to the wing, his under-carriage (aeronaughtical term), etc.
Like he said, all minor adjustments.

Nice work!
Maybe Post a wireframe from edit mode.
Yeah. That movie rocked. :]
Indeed cool movie, though I didn’t think of it while creating this model.
Here’s an update:
- added eyelids
- reshaped the ‘wings’ a bit
- had to redo the eye lattice
- added a small tail
Small update:
- I’ve checked the edgeloops to make sure the eyelids can close. Later on I can use shapekeys to do the job when rigging.
Haha, very cool!
Interesting what people end up with when giving up their enthusiastic human projects…
toloban has recently gone back to 2d roots and you are doing sweet birds… I have to resist… I … I can’t … I must continue arrrrgh (my awesome work, haha)
I hope you will animate this one, i can imagine very cool early pixar animation
Awwww - He’s cute!
Um - Doesn’t a bird have three toes at the front and one at the back?
Thanks for the replies!
True. Some day I’ll complete the rig of Elissa, but for now, I need a refreshment…
Regarding this model (what should I name it?) … I don’t know if I should leave the beak as a separate mesh or attach it to the body?
Has toloban also given up? mmm
Ammusionist, I don’t know so I picked the one I know… I have a parrot as pet …
Oh, I think the feet look good and alright, there’s no need for accuracy imho.
toloban hasn’t given up, he’s helped me alot with my model and as he has successfully his one he now has other interests…
Ah - Parrot feet. In that case I revert to my original:
Awwww - He’s cute!
alright
Well, I guess it’s almost time to rig it…
I tink I’ll start with shapekeys to dilate the pupils.
Then some shapekeys to close the eyes. Don’t know if I still have the time for it, maybe tomorrow, else next week.
Just a new render:
(in case somebody wonders how to render wires:http://www.blendernation.com/2006/11/11/video-tutorialscript-rendering-wireframe-overlays/)
I think hed look a bit better wiht some little bit of the 'feathers; going donw over the thighs irght now, its a little too sudden.
other than that, awesome, nice style!
Great model! Reminds me also of “The Birds” of Pixar and also a bit of these little guys:
You definitely should make a great, funny animation of it.
Keep it up
Gallardo
Make for this little fellow some girl friend…looks so alone
Nice!
OneMan : who knows, maybe he’ll meet a cute girlfriend in the future
free_ality : thanks, I’ve created some small thighs. Later on I’ll maybe texture him with some feathers…
I’ve created some shapekeys and linked them to drivers already:
- dilating the eyepupils
- eyelids down
- lower eyelids up a little
- eyebrows middle down
next to come:
- eyebrows down, more shapekeys
- eyebrows up
- beak…
- further on, softbody for the hair (at the end)
Because there is almost no neck, I wonder I shapekeys / armature movement will not mix up the animation…I’ll have to find out…
Btw, I’ll call him Ruby.
Here’s an animated gif showing some random movements (8 frames / 2secs):
Nice little character. I saw the title “The Beast” and I was thinking of a NWO.
Hey, this is really cool!
It looks very clean and I’m still wondering about how you did the pupils getting larger and smaller… I remember there was a tutorial about this, but I like how you it works for your model.
