The BGE AirRace*: See a fantastic wip video by Mr. Martinsh

Hello Xjazz
I’m using your Hokum heli template in a little Civil Security game/demo
It’s great and works quite well…until its time to land the machine?..
Any tips on how to put “that thing” on the ground, correctly ( I can’t get/stand 0 Km speed)
Thank you in advance!
Bye

Hi OTO,

Yes, the landing is too trick now.

One of biggest reason is a lack of the basic flight instruments:

Especial without Attitude Indicator it’s very hard to keep Hokum horizontally still during descending:

I can check this issue during this weekend.

Well, I’ve added a “fake” instrument panel, simple graph lines that go with your existing “Text” ones!
The problem is that I can’t slow down speed until it reaches near zero values, and if I land the helli, it keeps moving ( well, maybe easy to solve with “Touch” sensor to cut the engine?!)
Bye

I see.

You should add a keyboard or mouse middle button input to feather the rotor at touch down. Just decrease the lift to next to none.

I think this better solution, than any automated one.

(edit)
The reason for the player controlled ideology:
If the pilot makes a bad approach and veering off some direction during the landing pad touch, he is still able to power up and possible fly away for the next attempt.

Hi

First demo soon

Hi

Game zip file(27M):
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_demo.zip

Unzip file to any location.

This requires at least three axis joystick. The pedals are not supported yet, since the flight model is lacking the yaw input.

User need to first run the HOTAS.exe to make a configuration file for the BGE_AirRace_demo.exe.

Start the BGE_AirRace_demo.exe and maximize the screen.

About the penalty system (track-judge) you can find more from included ReadMe.txt file.

I try to create better brief & instruction later on.

Thank you for your attention

Hi

I compiled a new .exe with Blender3D’s own Save As Runtime function.

Use original download link.

If you are interested, you can find a source file here:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_demo.blend

Is there any way to use the mouse? e.g. move mouse for x and y axis, then scroll wheel for z axis? This would make it available to a wider audience.

Hi

Any critics yet?

Wait, is that g-load dimming I see in the video? Cool!

But I do have a criticism. No Linux version / blend.

Yes, that’s a G-load caused flight simulation classic view effect. The G-load also effect to the hearing.

Both effects are simple and straight forward at this point.

For your deeper critic

Very nice. How do you switch to joystick mode?

Hi

This is a joystick version

http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_demo.blend

For some reason it doesn’t work with my joystick (Logitech Attack3).

I get this in terminal:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "JOYSTICKS", line 47, in <module>
KeyError: 'value = gameOb[key]: KX_GameObject, key "gc_c" does not exist'

Hi

A small update

The main menu screen:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/m_main_s.png

The game play
The game is related to the Red Bull Air Racing.

The game play is straight forward. Fly two laps solo race as fast as you can, and avoid the time penalties.

The track
The track is related to the Red Bull Air Race Barcelona track
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/TMR_s.png

The track in download game is 50% bigger than real life track.

Installation
NOTE!
At least three axis joystick is needed. At this point the game HOTAS setup recognize only tree connected joysticks.
Just unzip the zip file where ever you want.

Playing
Start the game with BGE_AirRace_a002.blend.
Configure your HOTAS and save, which is creating a txt file with your configuration.
Check the Track & Rules
And RACE!

The Viewing
A classic numpad key viewing system.

The blend file:

Your comments and critics are most welcome.

I forget to add

This game is all about the speed and precision flying.

The mouse control system is simple way too dull to do the job.

Please, use the joystick.

Very nice. It seems harder than the air race in FSX - are there any professional air racers in the Blender community who could evaluate the realism?

Thank you for your feedback.

Please, could you define, which part is harder?

I made a new version, which has:
Less sensitive roll.
The thrust and drag are adjusted to believable levels.

http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/Demos/BGE_AirRace_a003.blend

Less sensitive roll.

Is this joystick-dependent? With my setup I have less sensitive pitch.

Please, could you define, which part is harder?

It seems to be faster - the plane in general. Of course the roll fix will probably help.
