I based my calculations on these results from the blender open data benchmark, which doing your exact calculation gives about 13k
13k+ is correct for 64-core M5 Ultra version. For full 80-core M5 Ultra it should be about 16k.
What a completely coincidental similarity to the RTX 5090’s results… ![]()
My prophecy will come true. Apple will completely crush Nvidia (Ai, Ai, Ai).
I was the one who started the thread. But then it was renamed.
Looking at the variety of Blender supported features among Android tablets, I’m guessing some devs are regretting that the iPad port didn’t get priority. The iPad list would have been way simpler.
Ouch.
That sounds like a Sisyphus job.
On the other hand I think Android Tablet users may be a very large user group for OSS like Blender and are worth being supported.
While if there were such issues for iPad users, I think these would be more willing and capable to spend some more money on an e.g. iPad Pro instead if that would be needed.
And I think Apple is well suited and capable to offer the iPad support to Blender.
I am close to say that today Android tablets can be as good and powerful as Apple’s iPads.
But the development for Android is so much more complex because of the different hardware than Apple.
Too bad they put Apple on the backburner.
For those Mac users that would be interested in AI yesterday I tested openCode which offers a free contribution version of Meta’s Spark Muse 1.2 model. Contribution means Meta could train on your data.
If you are fine with that it is a pretty amazing experience to develop scripts for Blender.
Coming from CAD and teaching Shapr3D and SketchUp Blender’s workflow is just a cluster flower of too many tools and mouse clicks to do basic tasks like scale to point - rotate around point.
yes there is the 3D cursor or active element but it is a lot of changes you have to do before you can even perform a more scale or rotate command.
Shapr3D has a pretty amazing 3D widget that can auto align to the selection below.
So I let AI code a Blender version for me.
you position the widget where you want to and then based on what you select you can scale move rotate. This is super handy when having to move a CV along an edge normal.
What is nice about this is that on your mac you make a project folder, install openCode, select Meta’s online AI model and all the processing is done in the cloud but the results are on your mac.
Really cool is for add-on development that the tool does edit the add-on inside Blender so you dont need to reload scripts / restart Blender etc.
And of course you can also use it as MCP.
My assumption is they decided to focus on Android first because it’s easier to issue unvetted public betas outside of their app ecosystem. While that’s possible on the iPad as well, Apple does NOT make it easy to do so.
Apple has TestFlight - I beta test quite a lot of apps
works fine
in all those years only with Shapr3D recently did I see issues (delays) with TestFlight
Apple has incredibly high standards even for TestFlight though, doesn’t it?
It does, maybe not for very local internal tests where you add either phone IDs via provisioning profiles… but the moment you want to do a wider TestFlight distribution (like what the Blender devs would do) it triggers a longer loop. For example, just increasing the version number (say, Blender Tablet 0.1 to 0.2) can trigger a several hours to days delay to get it approved, once it happens increasing build numbers (0.2 (1) to 0.2 (2) is pretty much instant.
Side note: interesting Mac and “that which shall not be mentioned tool” to aid in the process has been interesting. I’m actually keen on that and using it to fast track me on tedious task anyways.
And no, I don’t think the joy of work will go away. If we take gardening as an example, some people still do their gardening on their backyards, not because we need it to survive, not because it’s critical, but because of the joy and keeping that human connection with the earth or something. Definitely not losing sleep over this personally.
I am not a dev more a user on the other side and besides Shapr where a new TF version was stuck some days with others it seems super fast
Maybe what @amartinezch said explains it.
From what I could read in my email notification …
I found this posting above very interesting …
And I agree with Blender’s lack of CAD-like (or even some 3D standard-like) behaviours. Although it got better during last years.
But especially Bonsai (former BlendeBIM) and some other AddOns do help a lot.
It was a post about another success with openCode doing another tool for Blender which Blender just lacks. I made it clear that this would be the last AI post since there is no point in repeating this but also closed with that interestingly such a combo of openCode and Meta AI for free enables also Mac mini 8GB users to be productive.
I can see why somebody might flag this but also looking at the general AI thread which is basically filled with complains about AI and hardly anything productive and considering that most of my post are specifically mac related I felt this could be useful for the Mac user since this is the Mac build thread.
When the tools are ready I am happy to share them. AI coded them - I only directed it - I don’t take any credit and I did not pay for anything besides energy and time - good way to give back since Blender is free.
Would be awesome if those could be used as inspiration to improve Blender where it just lacks usability.
I had found it very interesting too… it begs the question, would it warrant to open a separate thread that takes those ideas and gets discussed there in a productive manner without getting flagged? And the more specific ones get a link here?
Or that flag happened because the forums just don’t accept anything anywhere of the sort using “that which should not be named to avoid the ire of the usual pundits” for any type of tools or aid.
I think as said …
“post was flagged by the community” and Forum Admins have to react. So another new AI on Blender For Mac Thread may be a good idea.
At least Blender is not as 90% “AI is forbidden completely” as on FreeCAD forums.
BTW;
I personally avoid AI and everything Siri and AI on Mac … my prompting initially seemed not very compatible with AI …
But Bonsai recently made a lot of progress, by AI enthusiasts, and experienced Bonsai developers do not complain though.
Good question.
The do feel a more productive AI thread could be useful - specifically about the ups or downs of AI and coding for Blender.
I just chatted with a friend.
Who today places lights manually ? Everybody uses GI.
So the same is true with AI now.
You can waste resources or use for what it currently is really good at.
Should we call it “Coding Blender with AI” ?
Could include topics like MCP for scene modeling or Geometry Nodes, coding python tools, learning about coding, and so forth.
That is an interesting issue.
I am not a coder so I don’t know how good to code is.
If the tool works for me - fine.
But also
Blender is 940MB sketchup is 2.4 GB!
Using it as an example of terrible human coders.
However in day to day production I do feel AI can help creatives in ways never possible before.
It I did read that
