Steve Jobs would try to do just that, though!
That is the difference to Tim. And he would show Blender on stage himself.
Okā¦let me put on my āfuturist hatā and say that ultimately RT and current rendering tech doesnāt matterā¦it really doesnāt.
Weāre all thinking in terms of today, and thatās silly. Stuff is changing literally by the week (Wonder Dynamics much?).
I predict that very soon, AI tech will be the only thing that matters when it comes to rendering. It will add in details lost to low samples, it will upres from low pixel counts, it will even improve the textures and lighting to make the renders that much more realistic, as well as allow for some hefty emulation of lenses, film stock, and even other render engines.
Itās coming, and none of it will rely on RT.
So perhaps Apple is thinking ahead and investing into neural cores as being the real game changers when it comes to real-time graphics.
Like Iāve said before it will all eventually go to the cloud. Your āiPadā type device will be your mobile docking station to pair with larger screens and peripherals. All computation will be done in a galaxy far far away. ![]()
Or Apple Vision computational computer is the start of what is and will be for future computing.
I already do my little gaming on the cloud (Geforce Now) and it work incredibly well. If something like games can work so well, where a difference in a few MS can matter, than easy to use and setup real-time workstations for the masses isnāt to far off.
Yeah current Ai denoising is already almost magic to me. I was sad apple silicon got left out of the gpu support for oidn (they brought it to nvidia and amd) That and I wish there was more temporal coherence options for animation.
I take it there were no neural engine denoiser talks at wwdc?
Yeah, from the stuff Iāve tried denoisers arenāt there yet for animation. And this is where it would really matter. Who really cares if a denoiser saved you 1 or even 2 minutes on a still frame render, Iāve sat at traffic lights longer than that. But if a DN can save a minute per frame on a 120,000 frame film and look proper, then we are talking benefits.

I put that Video on the side of my screen.
I will watch it when Iām in good mood and prepared for disappointment ![]()
I gotta say I was totally surprised with the number for the M2 Ultra popped up on Blenderās bench this morning. I was honestly thinking it would be considerably lower, a lot lower.
I know Apple is still trailing the RTX cardsā¦. But letās go!
When it comes to rendering render farms are just amazing.
2 seconds per frame ???
25 on my RTX 4070 Ti
So yeah fine to work on the max and render online - bill the client
This is the way. ![]()
What farm is that please and would you recommend it?
I do use render.st
I am a Customer since ages
Call me crazy, but at this point, with a new Mac Pro that is effectively an empty enclosure, and PCI slots which are effectively useless for most people, I find myself wishing that Apple would have gone back to the Trash-can design.
I mean, I kinda liked that esthetic, it was just a poor replacement for the original cheese grater. But at this point the Mac Pro enclosure feels like a waste of space, so why not go back to the slick trash-can design? Alternatively, why not use it for the Mac Studio?
Either way, Iām team ābring back the trash can!ā
We are getting benchmarks and reviews tomorrow right?
The idea completely out of touch with reality but I fncking love it.
Some benchmarks are already up. Blender, Geekbench. But if you mean YouTube, then Iām not sure when the NDAs end.
I would hope OpenData and expect them tomorrow. That single M2 Ultra score in the database might be from inside Apple or somebody who hacked their score upload.
I think there is no NDA. Youtubers are simply still waiting for parcels.
Channels like Max Tech have to order their Apple products and wait for shipping (or at least they use to, I havenāt watched that channel in over a year), but channels like Dave2D and others most certainly get product from Apple and have to wait for the NDAs to end; they even say so in their videos that they have been doing testing on the product for āpast week and can finally now post.ā
Iām pretty sure the reason they used the ācheese graterā enclosures, was because they had a surplus of Intel Mac Pro stock, and wanted to offload it. Save on production costs. Then they can do a potential new design for the M3, M4, MX version next.
