The Crosswalk - Open Movie Project

(Instead of going to the old thred where most of the links are broken for the images I dedcided to start a new one)

Most people may have heard of this project, most may not. Here is a quick breakdown…

Last spring, I had the idea for a 6 minute short. It was a story about an old man who was trying to get to a coffee shop across the street for a job interview. He has some trouble making the crosswalk light and when he figures out how to get across, he realizes he left his breifcase on the other side of the street…

Sounds simple enought right…WRONG! This project took off and turned into what I think is and was the largest community project. With over 40 people helping it became a monster that turned my personal life into ruins. I literally had a break down trying to balance this movie with my personal life. In the end…I did something I regret. I quit. I thought I set this project up as one that was OPEN, witch ment even with out me, it could sustain itself. I was wrong. Seems like something of this size, needs leadership. No one stepped up and the project took a nose dive for almost 6 months. My personal life took a nose dive as well, and it took me this long to get back on my feet. Its hard to make people understand this if they have never been through it before. The worst part of my life is over and as most of you know I have been slowly working my way back to the blender world that I have been apart of for so long. So now you know what went on…Let me tell you whats going to happen!

First off let me give you guys a peek at what exactly we accomplished…

This is our beauty! This scene is close to 4 million verts. No cars and no people.

I do not own this project. I started it, but it and the site belong to everybody here.

There have been users who helped and I will be giving them credit here as soon as I finish the list.

We are looking for new talent now. Artists, Modelers, Texture designers, Animators and Sound guys. I am buying a new quad cpu and video card with my income tax so I will be able to work with the scene again soon. This project may be at blenderprojects.com, but it started here and I would like to see it finished here. This is your call for help, To get this movie done so it can be something to show everybody that it CAN be done. Blender can do something of this size.

If you are intersted in helping please post. Tell me what your strong points are.

Are the buildings modeled inside ?
Just asking (silly question)

But if it is, Then it is an good start not just for one short movie but for one whole movie!
This not just look just like a simple scene!

There are (even if you dont belive) more than 15 points or more to get a Photo (mean one act on a scene) an full movie has 15-20 points where the action is loopin

Gramma house , Hero house , The office > all goes in loop the script and the characters get the part of eliminating the decor (they get your attention) :slight_smile:

Your script look simple but one picture express more than 1 word so :slight_smile:
That is the beauty of art!

You say house and on the paper looks like a cube but after the sculptor get his hands on that cube :slight_smile: will make a real house :slight_smile: > this is the point of view from an sculptor eye that likes to model all by self hand :slight_smile:

I have my project in my mind and like you i get on a big confuze thing but i`ll go for it, it is my ambition

I must make my 3 min short bechouse my music i make is minimum 3 min and it has lot of animation tasks!

I`ve found blender 2 years agoo get confuzed by intereface so i got a beack down …so i got in the music rimes… :slight_smile: life goes one evreybody have some hard moments :slight_smile:

I can sing even i cant put a real note on a piano :) i can make a track generaly Ragga and Rap Rn`B i know things about sound processing (took me 2 years so…get musical ear even without one)

So if me i can sing when i was not able to sing corectly
Then you can make this project rise!

I know you can sleep well you whant this thing to be alive , i know the felling

Alot of the buildings have insides. When you get close up and look hard, you can see so much detail.

sounds interesting, i don’t know how to help atm but i would be in :slight_smile:
i can do model, texturize/materialize, lightning, render. animation and sound are new to me.

I’d be keen to get involved on the animation. Do you have a timeframe for the project? I could commit a few months.

I will get you guys some more car concepts and people concepts. I need about…3 or 4 more apartment style buildings. Those you can just copy the style we have going on now. Please keep the face count very low. Also they do not need to be textured. Please leave the glass default gray.

Its very cool stuff. It shows exactly what needs to be animated and at what angle.

Wow, that is totally hillarious. Excellent job on the story board. I’d love to help with this if I can. I would think with that elaborate city, you could do a really wicked fly thru before or after the animation, maybe during credits, etc. Anyways, send me a message if you’d like to me help out, maybe we can chat on IRC or something about it.
