I already published this scene sometimes ago but at this time I rendered it with blender internal experimenting AO, this new rendering was made with Yafray. Soon I will try to render it with Indigo to get some comparison from rendering time and quality point of view, I will submit it as soon as possible.
As usualy, C&C are welcome.
Rendered with Yafray, the rendering time was about 16h in 1024x768 on an Athlon 1.7
As promised here is the rendering made with Indigo. I used Indigo 0.5 test4, HDRI light source only, 20h of calculation on a Athlon 1.7 in 800x600.
The scene had to be tuned for Indigo renderer, I also had to simplify it (removed some paper clips) as the program crashed. As you can see the result is very different, the light is much more realistic but the bump mapping is better managed in the first rendering. I didn’t experimented Indigo enough and I’m quite sure we could achieve the same result.
Indigo is really a great and promising product still in developement but already functional with very nice and realistics results. I am far from being a experimented user, have a look at the site ( http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/nickamy/indigo.html ) to get a better impression of the product.
Thanks to all for your comments and advises, I made some improvements, mainly in the light, shadows may better correspond to the source light now, hope so. Any comment still welcome. See the image in the topic.
I made several tests to try to reproduce this scene with Indigo and It is not so simple, the export from Blender is not enough and some changes, mainly on light and materials should be done before getting the expected result. I’am still tuning the scene for this renderer which looks great, I hope to show you a first rendering in the next days.
not yet. I’d like to point out the brass texture on the thumbtacks, and the shadows still do not match your reflection photo. right direction, wrong softness
The reflection is hilarious, the hand on the camera is classic!.
I liked the original better, although this one does improve the lighting issues with the shadows. This one seems a bit too dark, and the text on the dial is harder to read.
To be honest I tried first with a lamp source with buffered shadow parameter to get a soft shadow but I had problems as Yafray does not produced the expected result (the shadow under the postit was unperceivable) and I could’nt tuned it, for that reason I came back to the ray shadow which produces a sharp shadow. I will work on that problem, any idea to solve this specific problem is welcome.
I used an HDRI image reproducing an office and I choose it cause of the hand on the camera, found that fun. Sorry I don’t remember where I found it and the name of the guy who provided it, if he recognises his image, I would like to thank him.
If you have a great and important decision to take and you can’t manage it, just turn the big ball which involves the small balls, when the mecanism stops the small red ball indicates the best decision to take. Easy and effective
A very nice render but not quite photorealistic.
I never noticed the paper clip models were slightly different in Europe than in the USA, probably because I use American ones over here.
