The Durian Dragon: First impressions from the Bcon photos

This discussion reminds me of:

oooo - eeee - oooo…

[I’m kinda wondering the same thing as phsychtron, myself, CD… read any Revelation lately?]

Flaming other fellow Blenderers? Disregarding that this is someone’s personal opinions? …what the?!?.. I really hope this is some kind of twisted joke. At least keep this crap away from us and Blender. It is no wonder that so many people look down upon Blender with users like this.

[FIXED]

rotfl

I’ve been waiting for this thread ever since I heard there was a dragon in durian.

wipes tear from eye

Well, Cd is actually right. This should have been the first place naysayers should have went. I’m also into this stuff so the description of the Blender “dragon” does in fact sound like a wyvern. A wyvern is a type of dragon I guess so technically it is a dragon, but I think a wyvern is more different and unique anyway.

There’s also the books by Anne McAffrey. A good read according to some.

Transcript of first Durian concept planning meeting

blah blah blah…

someone : “we should have a dragon character in this”

  • long protracted silence while people look at each other nervously *

someone else : “CDs gonna go freakin nuts over this on the forum”

  • wicked grins spread around the room *

… blah blah blah

I’ve read almost all of the Dragon’s of Pern books. They are great. It was one of my favorite series. Interestingly the author Anne McAffrey has always stated that it was a scifi series and if you read the whole series you can see how she comes to that conclusion, though a lot of the earlier books have a more fantasy feel to them.

Cessen To the rescue!!!:D…until he was taklehugged and feel out of the sky:(

:stuck_out_tongue:

I love dragons mnyself but i never go this bloody far, time to get a grip

I just could never get into the books myself, no matter how much I tried. Maybe because of the style of the writer or something, it just doesn’t grip me. Fortunately the wikipedia has some plot summaries that made my day.

Look man, this is not even funny. Anyone actually believing in stuff like that (not just as a hobby or something) really ought to seek some professional help. Living in a delusional fantasy world can’t be healthy.

Worst. Dragon. Ever.

“Sigh” what does"flame" then  mean? Geez, so naive, I said it tongue-in-cheek. Got it? I wasn’t laughing or anything. I was openly making fun of you. Really man, you think he isn’t healthy? You don’t know him, neither do I ,so how do we know if he lives like a human or a dragaonkin(that’s what you call yourself right Cyberdragon). I am certainly not an advocate of his ideas, instead I just go along with it. He already received a whole thread of flaming from it so don’t repeat it here. The only difference is that now the people that are accepting of his ideals are the majority, you, sir are the minority.

Also, your incorrect reasoning is what provoked me to reply to you. The reason that blender looked down upon, is because we, unlike most art threads, are so very accepting of newb works. Thus the Maya and 3DMAX people will look into finished works and wip and lo and behold works from new users. Those people with Maya and 3DMax are almost never new to it, as most of them went to a university that supplied it at a student discount. And since they are studying at those university, it is rare to see their newbie wips on forums and such. Thus the reason that those Maya and 3Dmax users play to say that Blender is an amateur application is the reason why so many people join these forums, myself included.

Now onto the topic at hand, I think wyverns and european style dragons have been gaining a bit too much coverage imo.Almost all dragon movies have used or centered itself on either one. I mean they are awesome and all but I really think there should be more variety.
Like look at this game here and scroll down to bosses. http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_List there are a seriously large amount of unique dragons that stray away from our normal view of them. I was hoping this one was going to be a bit more unique but as they say, you can’t have everything.

Just as a backup on that last statement:

The only true dragon is Bowser, king of the koopas.

very good one! LOL

You should get out more. Or at least get off blenderartists forums once in a while. I know you saw this coming…

I don’t believe I was human in a previous life. I don’t believe in previous life. And dragons are just fiction. As is the guy who believed to be a dragon in the first Hannibal book, Red Dragon…

Dressing like a dragon, Vulcan or Link in some cosplay convention won’t change that, not even if you work on Google.

I don’t want to be disrespectful but this thread is embarrasing. We have an infamous off topic section unique to the CG online world, which would be a perfect place for waste like this.

This thread is a perfect candidate for massive off topic, general thread-derailment activities and a final self-combustion implosion. A troll’s dream.

IBTL

The reason that blender looked down upon, is because we, unlike most art threads, are so very accepting of newb works.
The main reason we are looked down upon is because we can not keep professional tones and attitudes in this community, people’s 3D works have nothing to do with that. If we don’t want noobs here, other applications and communities will gladly accept them.

Threads like this, fanboyism, unprofessional or inconsiderate attitudes, uninformed opinions and general reckless posting, those are the reasons we are looked down upon.

It is up to us whether we want to raise the level or not.

@superx10: Football vs Handegg: Excellent!

As a european, I fully agree with your definition.

You raise an excellent point.
I’ve been very surprised to see that there are already several threads like this on the forums, and as a Blender beginner with a professional background in publishing it gave me a biased opinion on Blender’s quality at first : a “want to be pro” software for a childish, unprofessional, amateurish (in the bad way) community.

And I was completely wrong. This attitude doesn’t represent the quality of the software and the community that exists around Blender. In my opinion.
