Blender 2.43beta sculpt for walls/ground, gen3 for initial tree development (multiple manual edits afterwards). Presentation is precisely as intended (after nearly a week of final adjustments on lighting, textures, etc.).
I hope this image engages you in some way and inspires you to interpret it.
From a literal sense, I don’t think that there is enough mystery as to whether it is an entrance or exit (obviously, it is an exit, look at the sun).
I realize, of course, that this is a simplistic interpretation, but sometimes the subject matter should be parallel with the theme.
The concept, however, is very inspiring. You have achieved your goal, I just don’t think that the image compliments it aesthetically.
Rocketman, thanks so much for the feedback and thoughts. Your sig (“perception is reality”) is one of the keys of looking at this, since quite a bit of the meaning of this piece can come down to personal perceptions.
For me, it’s what each of us decides the passage can represent, where we each stand at any moment – if the outside can symbolize something, more than one, be it eternal youth, an afterlife, idealism, optimism, inspiration, subconsciousness, dreams, the sheer beauty and joy of life, or the inside be darkness, pessimism, old age, mortality, decay, disenchantment, reality, and so on – that can help us define this threshold.
I also wanted to say it is where we stand, where we are going, from where to where, that also helps decide which side of the symbolic threshold (independent of any appearances) we occupy, whether we are actually leaving or arriving, entering or exiting, moving from one realm or state of being to another, for whatever reasons and to whatever ends or beginnings.
Ah, well then to me, the tree must represent growth and maturity. The water is restlessness, yet it is unchanging also. And the sun: is it setting or rising? That’s even more ambiguous.
That’s my take on the deeper end of the interpretational spectrum. I’ve noticed that a lot of your art draws it’s meaning from the beholder. The name of your website says it all…
i missed you dude! where’ve you been? in my eyes, you’ve got a great image.
i think it would look better if you opened it up in GIMP or something similar, duplicated the layer, and set it to overlay. that would give it a bit more color depth (though you have a lot already). other than that, awesome image.
…, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month:and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Revelation, 22:2.
Reminds me of a fresco from one of the old masters like DaVinci’s Sistine Chapel. A gateway into the quantum realm of eternity.
I think it’s outstanding, bro. Though I hnever would have guessed that it’s 3D.
Lua, no need to leave Blender for that, just use the nodes compositor. Rocketman, I believe he just told you it’s what you want it to be. I see and eternal sun, like summer in Alaska…land of the midnight sun.
RobertT, your last post reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite fictional (book) series.
“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
-Wheel Of Time: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
I cannot describe in words my interpretation of this piece, like it is too deep to comprehend. Well done.
The title “entrance or exit” sounds very unpoetic. In the past you had much more poetic / mystery titles to you works.
But nonetheless, this picture proves once again the mastery of your skills. And truly, what looks like the exit can for oneself be the entrance to something new, something fresh.
At the end of ones life the people surrounding you while you are taking your last breath may think that your journey has come to an end. But for you, if you have chose wise on this side of life, this can be the beginning of a much more beautifull journey.
And sometimes we don’t even see that there is a door which could lead into something new. We only see the wall, which seems to be unbreakable. One person broke this wall, two thousand years ago.
I like the piece quite a bit. My only critique is that the sun is a bit too strong in my opinion, too visible from the camera’s perspective. That said, for me the piece questions percpetion quite well. Since the perspective of the piece is from the darker side, and facing the entrance/exit, to me it at first implies that the archway is an exit. But then you question and realize that from the other side it is an entrance…it brings into question optimism and pessimism - which way do you see yourself travelling, from dark to light or light to dark?
Well, I love the concept art. I am all about it. Heaven or Hell? Coming or going? Living or Dying? Leaving or Entering…I am in love with this work of art. You have gained at least one true fan. Keep up the inspiring work!
nice. strong colours, as mentioned, but they serve their own purpose. i think they bring out the contrast between the spaces more.
way i see it, it is either emerging from shelter into an exposed outside environment, or following an underground passage to the centre of the earth (a la Journey to the Center of the Earth, that old school movie). so, in essence, the duality of departing from/arriving at safety/shelter/comfort/utopia.
also, maybe the idea of risk, of leaving the bare solid monumental walls of shelter for the (illusion) of utopia/life/new horizons.
nice.
I could NEVER make that. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!
I LOVE the title. Please don’t change a thing.
I love how you made it so it could mean so much.
How anyone could rate less than 4 stars is beyond me.
Unless they’re jealous, lol. This is like real art.
5 stars for you from me with love.
