Here is my last project, with a Steampunk inspired variation of the Lighthouse of my town (Calais, France).
Mix of Blender and Affinity Designer.

Here are some shots of the lighthouse-boat in Blender
The boat has been rendered with Cycles. Here is the work done in 2D using Affinity Designer that has been composited with it.
I hope you like it!

Thanks! It’s actually not a very difficult process.

Thank you! The shading is super simple. All textures are procedural, with some freestyle on top of that.

I’m glad you like it! Thank you for your comment!
Care to reveal to us the setup for the hand-drawn style shading? Would be interested to learn it and try something in that particular art-style

For this project, it’s just the freestyle option checked. Some meshes are excluded from the freestyle because of their geometry, which is too thin and would make them appear just as a black stroke (the ropes of the buoys, mainly). The flag also has a special setting where only the contour is drawn.
I had to rework the geometry of the windows of the “house” part below the balloon, because there was too much geometry, resulting in an ugly black clutter.
I plan to use more elaborate strategies with freestyle option for my next project, with the use of modifiers.

lovely detail work on the engine, such a shame its not as visible in the final shot though!
I love the vibe. Great job!

Yeah, that’s something that has been discussed a few times when I asked feedback here and there, but in the end, I chose that angle.
It’s fine, it may not be the last time I use this model, and it’s definitely not the last time I model some steampunk engines.
