The Goat ?!

well, i was bored to deth this friday, and i thought i’d do a little challenge to myself to check out my modeling skills. i choose a rendom subject and modelled a charachter … and so was born THE GOAT !!! (i told you it was random…). one hour to concept, two for modeling, and three for uv mapping and texturing. emphasis is more on the model, i pretty much suck at textures\mapping (but ill impruve that further on). critics and comments are very welcomed.

KOBY

haha! he’s awesome!

Very, very bad idea posting a zip-file here.

and why is it a VERY bad idea ? because it will cut down download times ?! oh dear … we wouldn’t want that to happen … seriuosly, i dont see whats wrong with it. i’ve seen alot of people post zip files here.

kflich: i think what he means is that people may steal your work.

I think blendermax may be right, although I feel that we are all wonderful people here.

I could not get the file to down load so I can not comment on the art.

I will mention however that since your are on geocities anyway you can create a WIP page and then hotlink to that page. Geocities just does not allow hotlinks to a jpeg or bmp or the like.

Elsdon

Actually is not a stealimg issue, IMHO, is that you should pos an image.

Having a GeoCities account is already sad, since you have to cut&paste the address to access it. If this leads to an image ok, but if it leads to a zipped .blend that you have to download, open and possibly render… well many people won’t do this, and you’ll get less comments.

Stefano

hey hey ! don’t be mad people !

  1. its a lowpoly model, so there’s no real use in rendering it, when i can show the file to give you a better look of the work.
  2. havin a geocities account is not sad - i just dont wanna invet in web space if im not going to bouild a site yet, and it took me 2 minutes to get it.
  3. the hell with theft ! no one here is going to steal my mode. and if they do i will take pride in knowing my art is steal-worthy. anyway, its a wip, and if anyone wants to use it he is welcomed, just put a credit notice for my name.
4)the first guy saw the goat and gave a good critic, so i dont think there’s much problem in downloading the file.

if you can stop criticising my methodes of posting and show a little more intrest in the work i posted, it will be VERY nice (<-- hehe, in opposed to VERY bad).

kflich:

I think people object to the fact that they have to go through the trouble of downloading it, unpacking it then rendering it…

If you got an accout with reblended.com you could insert the image right in the post, just like this:

which is much easier, wouldn’t you say?

Onto the Goat*******

It shows a lot of potential, the shape is quite nice, but could do with some subsurfing for smoothness. If you spend a little more time on the UVtextures this could look really great.

Yeah, and he has personality, which counts for a lot

To be honest : 1) I’m to lazy to download zip files.
2) I want to keep my documents clean => I don’t download many files.

I’d like to comment on a pic though.

I thought I’d be nice and render a couple of shots of this goat:
http://www.cs.newcastle.edu.au/~c3018900/goat1.pnghttp://www.cs.newcastle.edu.au/~c3018900/goat2.png

They’re not very good renders, but i couldn’t be bothered making them look good - it’s not my model

Finally I can see this pic !!

Problem is, I don’t want to dowload something that I don’t know what I’m getting. You didn’t even specify in your initial post what the zipped file contained (image, animation, .blend…). And as someone already said, you won’t get that many comments from people if they have to dowload a zipped file, unpack it, and then render it to see what you have done. It seems to me a bit rude to have that kind of an attitude. Posting an image would have been much better, that way there’s no extra effort to see the result.

ok, i get what you saying. it was my mistake that i didnt detailed the content of the .zip, but i still think that downloading a small file+unpacking+viewing (it wasn’t meant for rendering) is a process that take in approx. 20 seconeds (sometimes even an image takes longer to load). just thought people here will be a little more trustfull in thing posted on the forums - hell ! what person will want to put harmfull content on this site ?! we didnt do bad to anyone … :frowning:

anyway, phlip - thanks a lot for the image (i will post a better version when ill get a proper account).

D@veyBoy - ill try and make an account on reblended.com soon.

and everyone - thanks for the comments !

the file could also contain a virus. im not saying that you would do so, cause you obviously didnt, but the danger exists.

Well, curiosity always prompts me to download things, that said…

I love the goat, he has great personality, he would make a cute character for a game.

Yup,

now that Phil has posted an image, I’d say that it’s a very cute goat
