The Harbingers WIP

I’ve been agonizing over this character for four years and only recently broke through that wall that prevented him from being real. It’s all part of a larger story I’m writing and I plan to accompany it with stills of his exploits, or animating small episodes, or even making a small adventure game. I’m not going for grandeur. I just want this to be a creative outlet.

The character itself is nonhuman which I hope explains the missing features. I swear I’m not lazy. I’m working on finalizing the details then UV unwrapping it and finally putting an armature in it. It’s low poly for various reasons, mostly because I plan on using it as a video game character eventually.

Here’s a link to the gallery of what I have so far: http://cuddlyogre.imgur.com/harbingers

Any helpful advice would be most welcome.

Hm, topology is not good, clothes are square’ish… But I really like style, skinny, tall character : ) Keep improving!

Be sure to check blendercookie.com tutorials about topology, they saved my day.

Funnily enough I just discovered that site not 10 minutes ago. The topology really does need more work so I hope that is resolved by watching some of those tutorials. Do you know of any good clothing tutorials? I want to make the clothes more natural looking but am finding it difficult.

For simple clothing, I just run a quick cloth simulation, and just apply the modifier when everything’s settled down. It’s good for tee-shirts and whatnot, but I have a feeling a robe or whatever would work in this case as well!

Just to echo what Venthe said, the guy from blender cookie is an expert at topology, and you will learn a lot fairly quickly from the various tutorials on modeling there. But don’t expect to pick it up just like that, as it’s a very complicated topic. I started working on organic modeling about a week ago, and it’s a lot of work/study.

You weren’t kidding about the topology and I’m really liking what I wound up with after working on it for many many hours. Now I’m working on the clothes (in 2.55) and can’t seem to find a way to apply the cloth modifier. I let the sim run to where I want and hit stop. When I click apply in the modifier the mesh goes back to normal. There used to be an “Apply Deformation” option but that has vanished. How is it don in 2.55?
