The Importance of Music

Just wanted to remind all of those who need music, and need it well done: www.freeplaymusic.com is the place for U! I found out about it from a post here in elYsiun and never stopped using it since. There are some rules involved in teh distribution of those songs, but they’re perfect for a budding short film that needs a little spice.

Most of you know, but for those of you who don’t, stop your browser and head over there!

www.magnatune.com also provides all music in 128kbps MP3 under the CC-noncommercial-sharealike license. In case you want to use it in commercial productions, you will have to license it for a fee, though.

And the music also is top quality.

And, unlike freeplay, you actually may use it in podcasts

Free play music is great.

I have been using their stuff for a long while. Home videos of the family, background music and DVD menu music.

They have a SUPER search engine, especially whentrying to find the right ‘mood’, it is very accurate.

Here’s some Blender projects that I used FREEPLAY music with:

And this too…

Yeah, nice resource guys. Thanks for the links.

IANAL, but I think you just have violated the freeplaymusic license, as you “broadcast” it in a sense…

But I’m not sure, the whole terms are very ambigious, IMHO.

Can’t I use it if I credit the author too?

That’s no reason. If you copy LoTR it remains copyright infrigement if you state “by J.R.R. Tolkien”

You only have the rights the copyright holder grants you; and in case of freemusicplay, these are not bad, but still not good. (For internet use, that is; if you are planning a motion picture that will only be shown in the US, the license is great; however, don’t make a film so good it would be shown in Cannes ;))

And as long as you’re not selling it…

So I can’t use it in animations that I show here?

Why not ask them? [email protected]

If you do, it would be nice to tell us what they said.
