Absolutely magnificent. There’s no question in my mind that Batman was always doomed to be the “straight man,” and that the real stars of the show were the always-creative villains. Some were quite silly (“quack quack …”), but none (IMHO) ever topped, or even came close to, The Joker™.

I especially like your rendition because half of his face does not have makeup. Also, it is a direct throw-back to the “comedy and tragedy” masks of classic theater. Yet his costume does not continue the idea: you didn’t take it “too far.”

Certainly, Phoenix (and his amazing makeup artist(s)) was immortal in his performance. But your “binary” and “mask” ideas go even further . . . albeit in ways that a real human actor probably couldn’t do.
