This is a little animation film I made for use as making-of presentation I’m doing at my college’s techincal festival. It was made completely using open source software (Blender, Gimp, Inkscape…) and it was mainly done to show people that movies can be made with FOSS, and how.
I know the basic premise is silly, so are many elements in the movie (pacing, angles etc). There are so many flaws (weight painting and deformation issues, mesh collision, faulty textures, aliasing issues etc)- but the thing I’m proud of is the fact that I did this over a period of a week during after working hours in my spare time.
I could’ve used Durian and showcased that too, but I figured I would be able to answer questions and explain a lot more well when its my product.
PS: A few of my friends mentioned the sound and music to be odd; its on purpose- to reinforce the silliness and weirdness of the whole thing.
PPS: I should probably change the beginning music since people are say its more annoying than being weird.
@All
Thanks for the encouraging comments guys! I was actually expecting harsh ones. I keep thinking I can do better.
@Animaticoide
Can you post a link to that? Would like to see another one of your lovely animations!
@dleri
Oh, I wouldn’t know The idea just popped in my head all of a sudden and I rushed to finish it. And its after I finished it did I feel, ‘Man, this is SO lame, why should I even publish it?’ xD
A good job, you need a bit of work on animation I think. It is a bit too linear the acting, try use some planning of action ritm with slow downs and faster actions.
Music is fine in my opinion and the camera is really interesting.
You could have a better ending just putting the right time in the final slide. I think is a bit long or maybe there are too many interruptions with other shots that can be avoided. But this is your choice and way to tell a story.
Too harsh comment?
I always helped people asked me for, so feel free.
Well, very good considering you did it in only one week.
You know most of the flaws, and this is a final product, so I don’t have much constructive criticism to add.
But as a spectator (not looking from CG/filmaking perspective) I didn’t understand the end the first shot, I had to rewind it to realize the man was sliding and that caused the fall. I think it has to do with timing and camera angles.
@Lord M
Wish I could spend more time on this, but oh well. Thanks for the comments
@Brachi
I kinda agree with the camera angle part. Most of my friends didn’t understand what had really happened. Personally I feel more than than the camera angles, its the fact that all the faces of the building contained the same material, making the viewer confused about which one actually is the ground plane.
