The lab

Mad scientist lab! Monkey heads in jar are temporary, working on creatures to put inside.

Noooo. Why can’t I be so good like you guys.

Practice. The more modelling you do the better you will get. Most of the parts of the scene were made by just extruding a circle.

a circle!? Hmmm… Anyway, is that glass just a texture with raytranparency added? If so, I never knew you could do that.

The glass is a tube with raytranparency and has a few textures affecting the normal values to make it look scratched+fake blurry reflections.

very nice should be following this thread and as for you graphix modeling is the easiest part whereas texturing sometimes is a burden

Looks good so far, but I’d lower the normal value of the tube-metal, as of now it looks a little broken and takes the attention away from the monkeys XD And I agree, texturing is a pain at first, but once you get the hang of it it’s quit fun

Question: How did you model the wires?

anmisto: texturing for this is simple, most of the textures are mapped to a cube and affecting colour and normal.

kiriri: I have the normals for the tube material so high because I want to make it harder to see what’s inside, also it will look better with bigger creatures.

GraphiX: Curves. I suggest you learn how to use them.

I didn’t mean the glass material, I really meant the iron sockets. Right now they look as if something scratched them big time, and for massive steel or whatever that is , that looks strange (IMhO)

Better? I made smaller scratches.

much better!

Hiya. I agree the metal surface looked too damaged and the new image is a big improvement. My first impression was that it was wrapped in tinfoil. I think you could make it look aged and worm by giving it stains instead of damage. Show how the liquid inside the glass has leaked now and again over the years by adding discolorations down the sides of the metal, and, if possible, give the stains a downward flow, like dripping.

Update. Added goo dripping down+more wires.

MOAR GOOOOO!!! HAHA. Sorry, I’m not good with render settings, what did you use to make the tiles down at the bottom, fuzzy. and also, since you have wires, you should have some sort of cpu display. with goo on it…

I used nodes for the effects on the scene. Working on display but may not have it up until 5 tomorrow.

added moniter+better nodes

Buttons maybe?

Sorry for not posting in a while. Having trouble moddeling the buttons. Could you do a quick sketch to show me what you want? Thanks.

ah, you overdid it a little, that’s hurting in my head XD why not render the light seperately?
