The little transmission bearing which could...

Currently on UK TV there is an advert showing for a Honda Accord.

The mind boggles at how it was done! It starts with a little transmission bearing, which rolls down a slope, hitting a larger bearing, which then hits a cog, which then makes a bigger cog run down a slope which then… Watch the advert and see!

“Easy!”, you say. Just do some rigid body dynamic animation in Houdini or 3DS Max.

Well, it was actually done in real life using skill, steady hands and 606 takes!

http://tinyurl.com/9hxp a review of the advert in The Telegraph newspaper!

You have to admit it is a pretty stunning advert.

Anyone fancy trying to recreate something similar in blender?

 Not me!!!

wow! AWESOME ADVERT! lol

but some thing are “not possible”…no? Like the wheel going up the hitting the other wheel etc…it seem like they don’t have enough speed to do that…maybe I’m wrong but anyway it’s very cool!

That’s what I thought. But apparantly they weighted the inside of the wheel so that they would roll upwards.

Lol, just imagine if someone says while filming: “I’ll open this window for som fresh air” and screwing up the take!

:o

Brian

Wow. That looked sort of like those people in Japan who set up millions of dominos in series. That was very cool.

Goo

psssh, Holland still has the record for Domino’s…

about the advert:

I saw a video a long time ago with the same thing. it was in a big industrial building. they also used acid to burn away tables at one side and stuff like that. the video is about 15 minutes long

the one to give me the name of that video gets eternal fame because I searched my head of for it.

Roel

that was awesome, i love those!!

I didn’t bother watching the advertisement, but those dominos… wasn’t that kind of thing shown on a television set in “Run Lola Run?” (Just before she starts running.)

Anyway, I can’t understand what you’re talking about with the advertisement.

I believe that would be “The Way Things Go”. Very cool indeed.
