The Lorax

I found myself with more free time than I expected. So, I decided to take a crack at recreating the cover of “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss.

Quick reference for those who haven’t seen it in a while:

A quick update with the background change to match more. Also higher res.

Looking good. The Lorax trees need more work though. Once you get their shape down then you’ll pretty much have the picture.

Hello. They’re called truffula trees (*spell check?). Pretty nice. However the truffula tree tops could use some more randomness in the length. Also a very slight vortex field on them might be nice.

Probably the easiest way to get the tops of the trees to look correct would be to use the sculpting tools. You can pull out the tufts and curl them about exactly the way you want. I had to do a photoreal model/render a while ago of Horatio Seymour. I was able to use the sculpting tools to curl his hair to almost exactly match his photos. We ended up rendering the scene in LightWave but created the hair guides with Blenders hair system.

After a little more playing.

Can’t figure out how to get the vortex force field to work. :frowning:

Actually, I don’t know how to apply it to hair. I’d also add a little more random and more clumping.

Just another quick update for the end of the night.

Noob question. <-- Raises hand

I have been trying for days to get Blender hair into LW. Can you give a step by step?

Select the hair and switch to particle mode and comb the hair in any way that you want to achieve that vortex look. :).You can find the combing tools in the Tool Panel.
