Just playing with the new “paint-on” particles.

This is done with todays CVS.
It’s possible to “Dab on” lenghts/vector speed in particles by assigning a
vertex group and paint with weights realtime while you watch the hair
“grow”.

For now there is little control over it all…but we’re certainly getting closer.
Kudos to Jahka, Ton and the others!

If you guys play with some hair/ fur on your models using these new features
do feel free to post your results here.

Let’s make this a “BAD-HAIR-DAY”

really looks like ‘getting there’ but i spotted some bad areas on your renders. if the system could allow more ‘outofthebox’ results, that’d be a godsend.

looks really muddy , but still very cool.

ticky clicky

consider it a feature request.

blendermax wished for it - and for all peeps w.narrow browsers

Tedi, can you turn that into a [ url = http://blabla.com ] [ / url ] link?

thats very nice but you have some hair protruding out of the bottom of hugo’s  ear.

i still playing with this feature, but when i make something thats good i will post it, keep waiting!

I see you got it working.

and so began the age of the hairy suzanne. ( preceded by the age of the chrome suzanne and the yellow cube era )

there’s some nice looking fur gradient settings here:

Guides are posted too. Falloff, min max distance, multiple guides. Wow. Hairstyle of your choice. The guide still renders though. Shouldn’t that thing go invisible as soon as it’s parented?

Thanks ton and thanks Janne Karhu!

Some more tests…

These seem to come with a “LOT” of rendering artifacts… I’m not quite
sure why that is…

Anyway…Improvements have happened, we now have control over
pelt thickness (strand selector!) and can even select how the strand’s
gonna end…eg…rounded…spiked…and anything inbetween.

More tests later…

“This is only a Test”… of Blenders latest features…Hehehe.

Oh man, this feature is going to rock! JoOngle, the master Blender feature implementer strikes again with cool new stuff. Sweet.

How to control the color of fur via the color of texture?

:o

thank you sooo much for this feature JoOngle!

Oyster: Seems like only the emission properties are controled by the emiter material for the moment. In this Doc towards the bottom of the page.

I don’t see “tangent (anisotropic) render” anywhere. Do you just map to Nor instead of Strand?
CVS

:o

thank you sooo much for this feature JoOngle! :D[/quote]

Sorry wrong choice of words… hehehe.

no harm done

LOOOL!!!

There was actually people in this thread that thought that I’ve coded these
features!!! Unfortunately not so… I wish I was able to though!

No… the people you’ve gotta thank is Ton & Janne for working on the
particles, and of course the whole rest of the amazing Blender coder-team!

You people should read EVERYTHING in the post…hehe…
Hate to quote myself, but here I go…from my “unedited” first post in this
thread:

But enough of that… more tests later, still some issues to bug the developers
about

As the implementer of this amazing feature @ndy how far are you going to develop it in comparison to other hair tools for 3d software? Just wondering. It’s great as it is. With the test .blends from you guys at Orange studio and JoOngle’s test renders here in this thread there is so much potential for this feature.

well i havent actually implemented this either
[this is mostly coming from ton… i just whine and tell him what i need ;)]
and i think in terms of hairstyling and rendering we’re not so far from far more expensive solutions like shave…
but keep in mind that this alone won’t produce nice results, like everything it requires a lot of fiddling.
