The New Particles .. let's figure them out

Use an object with a spherical field and positive force.

Edit: You may have to move the goal parameter near the top of the list.

Excuse me if i sound dumb:(, but, if one were to add weight to the model, can the hair particles use only the weighted area, instead of having to select verticies separate it from the mesh then add the particles?

If I recall correctly you could do that with the old system but I haven’t seen anything about it with this system. Unless I am looking too hard and it is right in front of me.:o

There should a space that says vertex group.

Click it. Make it say density. Choose your group. Voila.

BTW, I wonder if it was possible with new particles and other standard Blender tools:

how do i do that?

edit: i think i found it but tell me anyways encase I’m doing it wrong

Hi mack.

I made a simple boid tutorial. The answer is in section 3_2.

I’m still learning the new particles also; so if anyone sees any mistakes
or something that could be done better, let me know.

The following are tutorials by LGuillaume:
I just basically updated them and added a little more information on setting
things up and a bit of background.

thanks ropsta, it worked like a charm as you can see here

But every time I hit render, it crashes blender. I have used the strand render option, and every other render option, but to no avail.as you can see here

Blender crashes. Should I report a bug? Any similar experiences? I need to get this out soon…:frowning:

Crashes a lot:D:spin::smiley:

The newest build still has the same render particle as object issue. (where it doesnt render anything.:frowning:

@ grafixsuz
try if setting render steps to 2 from visualization panel helps.

Also, you can try to create the children from the face and see what sort of results you get.

grafixsuz:
This happens to me whenever I have particle children or more than around 5000 strands, which really sucks. I was able to render stuff a couple of months ago, even with 10000 particles + children and all kinds of Clump/Kink. I have no idea how the Peach team is making do with this right now.

Thanks egan, ropsta and jiri. I have tried all your suggestions with no luck. I was hoping use blender all the way on this project but it seems, like they warn us all the time, if you don’t mind crashes and the like use the test builds but if it is something important use the stable releases.

Well, I know this feature will kick ass, but for the time being I will have to use another package to finish off these details…:frowning:

its because you have the render children amount up to 8000, and the normal particles up to 520, so thats 8000x520 particles it has to render, which is way to many

It’s not just that, I’m having the same problem, every time I render it, Blender crashes. I tried all the suggestions, but it still crashes.

I’ve got 200 hairs with 1000 children, which is a lot, sure, but it still renders just fine in the 3D view, so it shouldn’t be a problem for it to render.

Thanks dude, You know what I never even realised that I had 8000 in the render panel, shower me with noobisms if you wish… I kiss you on the head:o

And here you have it…

Just that little tab of hair on the top gave me days of worry
Sorry guys still much to learn.:o

Thanks to all for putting up with me.

he he he, well the only reason i knew that was because it happened to me

@hobo joe
there are seperate boxes for what it draws in 3d view and what it renders, so make sure you have them both set to the some thing, but default for render is only 100 so it shouldnt be a problem unless you changed that, so it’s either that or it’s actualy unstable…idk

edit: nice dragon btw

Must be overlooking something but I can’t find a way to set the thickness of the hair strands. “Size” doesn’t seem to work.

Anyone ?

Ooooh, a Dragon, must…comment…on, I like the model.

Yes, too many particles may crash Blender, also, use the adaptive rendering that involves segment polygon controls for angle and length, it’ll help a lot.

in the material buttons you will see a “strands” button, if you mess around with that you can change the size, im in the middle of a render right now so i dont know which tab

thx thx thx
