I am calling for help from some character modelers to help in my latest project, a sort of open movie, it is still in early development, however we are progressing.
The team consists of 4 people ATM, and we have become very stumped trying to model one of the main characters, Danny, and we were wondering if anyone was interested. Reply if you think you could contribute. There is an early sketch of him below.
You would have your name in the credits, your model used and medium fee, (not gauranteed  ) if the movie is successful.
No wonder really. That sketch of “Danny” is a napkin scribble, nothing you develop a character for a open movie from. There´s pretty much everything open for interpretation.
You might want to start with a decent concept then the modeling will be “easy”
First you need a basic idea, that´s where you are now.
You start with a character concept, where you sketch variations of you character, helping to decide on where to take the character, something like this:
Now you can decide what the character will be, you could also make some further character studies in various poses, emotions and so on to see if you like it.
Now you can create a character sheet/concept art, giving it more life. Work out details, coloring and so on to have a nice representation what will work and as reference for materials, texturing…
And last but not least you need a model reference sheet, something like those:
You´ll use them to model the character after.
At the moment we just have a concept, that character was not really intended as a reference to model from, just as a pointer in the general direction we want to head, @voe, what you need is some slightly more detailed sketches, which you cam then move to front and side.
Well, I suggest you first try to get a concept artist on board rather than a modeller who has nothing to work with then
If you have troubles drawing them, cheat.
Get for instance makehuman, create a basic shape of your char as you want it, export it to Blender, duplicate it and turn it 90°, repeat, make the camera orthogonal and render with edges and a white material. You´ll end up with the outlines of the char front/side/back, print it and simply draw over it.
Well, your OP says you´re having problems modelling the char and if anyone was interested. To me this implies that you`re looking for a modeller. What you need though is a concept artist
Technically yes, it can be all of the above, including open for abuse, or even just selectively points of the above. (or at least that’s how I view it) I think it is mainly open for interpretation, as the poster wishes, maybe someone should finally nail it down with a sticky in the forum? For instance Sintel could be called an open movie, however so is feathered horizon, which is completely different.
