The PlayStation 3.14159265358979 ;)

For Electronic Gaming Monthly’s little contest of what the next next-gen consoles will look like, I made this little picture. You can find it here.

Commentary, anybody? I’m sending it to them as soon as this gets submitted. Meaning, it ought to be in their e-mailbox when you read this!

Edit: I fixed the stupid little error in the URL.

Hey, you actually did something. Good for you. That’s pretty good. Your controller is a bit small with respect to the game console, though. Other than that the colour scheme is pretty good and it shows a lot of potential. Give yourself time, you are still young. By the time you are 20, and keep working at it, you’ll be quite good.

Cube, this is cool. I had heard a rumour that the PS3 would be carved out of solid granite, and when you put 12 of them together in a ring, you get the same power that Stonehenge has. (I also heard that the PS3 will become self aware at 2.15pm 14th November 2006, and start it’s own mission of world domination.)

Please enlighten me with the idea behind the ring type shapes at each corner, as IMHO they look similar to gas rings from an oven. (Having looked again I think they are disk holders, but I’m not sure.)

And where can I buy one of those controllers, that rocks, gotta get me one of them.

Nice to see some of your work,

Sonix.

Thanks, guys!

First, sonix, sorry, but

  1. That’s a “PS3” controller, so it wouldn’t work well, and
  2. It’s made up.

Yes, those “gas rings” are supposed to be discs. I originally made them look a little more like CDs, but they were still a little too 3D, and I decimated them. (They were also huge polygon monsters.)

BTW: Stonehenge is powerful? Are you talking about the guys who made it or what? :-?

cree: I wasn’t paying attention to size very much. It didn’t seem to work very well on the controller, apparently, so that’s one problem, but unfortunately, I already sent in the picture and zipped the files up. (The computer gets clunky when there’s too much stuff on it, so I zip it up for reducing file sizes.) Not to mention, this is the Finished Projects forum, which means it’s already finished and all. :x

Thanks for the commentary, though, I’ve got to make a file telling myself what tips you guys give me.

The stones mate, the guys who made it were great but they’re dead so not all that great. But the henge it’s self is a very powerful bit of kit. Something to do with time and some druids, some say it’s just a big clock.

Sonix.

But the monkeys!!! Will the judges understand the Monkeys??

But actually, in real life, wouldn’t that console be quite huge, meaning, if those circle are cd’s, then that thing is bigger than my old A4 scanner.

A Pi Playstation. Interesting.

I’ve seen a PS3 (well the mag said it was genuine), and it’s shaped like a toaster, and you can put it upside-down.

It’s an approximation. Then again, that would mean lots of extras… ooh…

And you’re right, the judges will be clueless as to those monkeys, but everybody likes them, so I don’t think it matters that they won’t get the in-joke; they like monkeys, methinks.

I’m not your mate, fag! (Watch “Clerks: The Animated Series.” it’s so easy to make jokes from it. i can’t resist)

That’s pretty complex for a clock.

Heh. I think true math geeks (i.e. WeirdHat) will think, “How lazy… ONLY 15 DIGITS! He is teh suck!!!1!!1!!!11!1”

(Fanboys. %| They spell EVERYTHING wrong. They can’t get “the” right.)

I’m not even going to rise to that, CubeMate.

Sonix.

Um, sonix, I’ll explain the joke:

The two clerks are, for some reason, working in a UK convenience store (which they do in the US). An English guy comes in and asks for a pack of “fags,” or cigarettes. One of them says, “You’re a fag!” He says, “It’s a cigarette, mate,” and the clerk says, “I’m not your mate, fag!” Then he jumps out and fights with him. Soon, after the flashback is over, the other says that they finally figured out what ‘fag’ really meant, but the other one still says, “You’re a fag!” He says it’s a cigarette, but the clerk says, “You’re a cigarette!”

PS:

The PS3 won’t come out for like 3 years, so I doubt Sony has even a prototype in mind. What magazine was this? Or are you joking or something?

wanna bet? Sony probably began planning the PS3 10 minutes after the PS2 was released (enough time for a bathroom break). Just because it doesn’t come out for a few years doesn’t mean sony isnt working on it… these things take a long time to develop.

…interesting render you have there. my main critisim is that it is HUGE. especially the controller numbers. they don’t need to be that big.

Cube, I thank you for the joke explanation, Clerks sounds like a laff.

I have read that Sony are working with Motorola to produce the chips that will run the PS3. The PS2 is run on the Emotion Engine at the moment. But the new chip will scream, as Motorola do such a good job with the chips for Apple Macs, this is deff the right route me thinks.
