This just hit me… A thread in off topic that hasn’t been done yet (or not to my knowledge anyway).
I’m no poet, and I’m not actually sure what I mean when I say the word “poetry” except that it’s a collection of words that are more than the sum of their parts. Never mind what other people mean when they say “poetry” :spin:.
Here’s my current thoughts… Poems can be as brief as the moment that has just passed or as long as a journey into your own soul, they can be understood to be an essential truth or as misunderstood as a fish on a mountain top, they can be deep as the depths of the universe or they can be frivolous as a kitten, they can rhyme in tune or be thoughtful prose that is as dry as a desert, they can have the rhythm and grace of a dancer or they can sink like a stone.
However, this is a forum of artists and other creative types so there must be a few here that have some wonderful words in their heads or even on paper somewhere. I’d really like to see what the forum members have to say.
Here’s my humble first offering:
Poets don’t exist.
They are a figment of the popular imagination.
The only poetry that is really yours
is the rhythm of words in your own mind
as you undertake the tasks that are necessary
for you to live your life.
