The priest

Hi all,

Priest character, from following ref https://tomeklarek.artstation.com/projects/O5Gge

I don’t know much about the character but liked it immediately when I saw it and wanted to recreate it in 3D. I see it has a priest who dictates from a holy book while he spreads death & chaos (the skull and the star). The explanation I liked the most from image search on the metal symbol described it as the star of chaos. Don’t know what that is but it sounded perfect for the image I had in mind

All done in Blender, mostly sculpted with some boxmodeling. Matplus addon for the texturing.

I struggled a bit with the godray render. Getting the volumetric right was not easy, getting enough volume and visible light colors while keeping the textures clearly visible.

Holy levitating brows! That’s a star? I thought it was for something else.

Hi Alf0, thanks for the comment. I didn’t mention any language. I try to write in English

The pages in the book don’t have any text, just a noise map stretched in one direction to try and get some lines. It doesn’t really work in these renders. The rest are symbols or lines I made up when painting the textures.

I don’t really know what it is. I liked the image and did an image search on that metal part on his right arm. One of the first results was > “star of chaos” I never heard about this and didn’t read much about it. Just the name alone fitted my understanding of the complete image very well. Especially in combination with the skull (death).

It was a fun character to do, sculpting (head, hands, cloths & skull) and box modeling for the metal parts and book. Same for the materials, some different parts need different materials that’s always nice to do.

Thanks man! Yes, I wouldn’t follow the advice of this priest. He’s up to something.

Did the original artist give permission to recreate their work?

Even if the letters are made up, I still see at least japanese katakana and hiragana, arabic, phoenician, hebrew, greek and latin letters etc with more or less stylization.

Not yet, I did mail him this morning (EU time), a few hours ago.

He also has a link to this post.

With my previous models I contacted the artist first, it’s good to have a short chat with the artist. Good way to get to know some people.

I know I started to lose inspiration and time when doing all the symbols while trying not to be too repetitive. Good that you see those types of symbols and not a guy struggling to finish that texture map.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
