Lovely community here, and I wanted to share my latest render that I’m happy with. It was originally created as a competition piece for Reddits Blender community and the theme for the competition was “Let there be light”.
The story behind the picture is that I actually started out making a robot for the reddits /r/low_poly/ subreddits competition in low poly style. But then I ended up matching this competition so much better. So, I put on subdivision surface and smooth on a bunch of details, but left the “dead” bots in low poly style. Just to differentiate the “dead” and the “alive”. Same thing with the eyes, colors and a few other details.
My first plan was actually to have them out on a field with a river right next to them and make them “bigger” looking. But, I hade some trouble creating a good atmosphere. So, I changed it up and ended with this sort of metallic looking surface. But, the two guys was so alone. There was no balance to the image. So, I came up with the story about them laying with a bunch of other small bots, all “girl bots” to the right and all “man bots” to the left. And, those two found each other, and sparks began to fire.
