I modeled it with a new surface to connect the parts of my model but the new surface looks worse than the old one. How can I fix?
Well… why does it have to eb “perfect”… it’s some “handcrafted” gear… so you have some unregularities which would be done by hand painting otherwise…
Hi, your original model looks fine you didn’t need to re do it. You can connect the other parts to the original.
if you can link or post the file i can show you how. No need for the textures.
All you have to do is select each section/object that has modifiers on and Apply all the modifiers then you should be able to join them together.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlLyz3YNBQQ
Well… here on the right side :
…i deleted the bevel modifier, did a simple relax and scaled the “pikes” on the Z-plane (Shift-Z) to make the “spikey” again… (maybe the crystal at the bottom needs some re-spikeing two).
I think I’m missing something starting with your question - I’m looking at the thing on the left, and I’m wondering why you’re doing any retopology in the first place.
Overlapping geometry of different simple forms to block out the result, bevel modifier to make some more geometry… → prototype.
Final result should be low poly. (Funny enough the first version does have 388 vertices and the othe 628).
The overlap could eb a problem on some game engines… (maybe…)
This looks really great. Thank you Okidoki. But I don’t understand how you did it. Did you join all the objects with “Join” and then merge them with “Merge Vertices”? Isn’t that more difficult?
Oh no… i took your example on the right (middle in my image) and used relax to make it more “equaly distributed”…
I am sorry, I still don’t understand. When you say “Relax” are you talking about the “Loop Tool” addon? Didn’t you merge all objects with “Merge Vertices” after joining them with “Join”?
Edit mode: Vertex → Relax (last one in mene)
I think I’m blind or stupid. I can’t understand what you are saying and I can’t find it, even though I think I have mastered the Blender interface. I’m sorry to put you to so much trouble man, but can you help me a little more please?
Man, I really don’t understand.
First, apply the modifications.
Second, join the islands.
Then, connect the vertices.
Finally, use “Relax”.
Is that what you mean?
Vertex → Relax menu is missing. (blender 3.6)
Are you using Addon?
I checked bu disabeling LoopTools… but it could eb something else …
ohh yes… See also Docs-Blender Manual: Edit Mesh Tools …
Blender is so nice already with the “shipped with tools”…
I have verified that it is a feature in Edit Mesh Tools Addon.
Ups… overlooked this… because of the Relax feature of Mesh tools …
I used you “result” with out the bevel modifier (deleted) and used relac from the edit mesh tools. And because the “spikes” were “flattened” just selected them and scale them “outwards”.
