This is my first completed model so I still have lot to learn and would like to turn to you to help me improve. I would firstly like to know what you think can be improved.
Secondly, I think the textures need some work. I would like to solve the problem of the crown reflecting the shadow of the crown as well as the black- almost oil spill look- on the roses; if you can help with either it would be much appreciated.
Well, first of all, I think that if this isn’t in cycles, it could benefit greatly from being transferred over. The lighting and shadows especially would improve, just because how cycles renders light bounces more accurately.
The flowers/roses look a little dark, and not enough color added to them. Perhaps turn up the saturation, make the diffuse a brighter color, or turn down the reflective amount. But you might be able to fix it just by adding in 3-point light like mrmagician said (if your not already using it.)
Also the shadow of 1 of the roses isn’t touching the crown, which makes the roses look like they are just flouting in midair which is not normal. Perhaps move the light to a different angle or even better move the roses closer to the crown (or just scale the crown up.)
Hope this helped.
Right, I’ve changed the colour of the red roses to something I think is better than the original. The 3-Point lighting has greatly improved the render (thank you mrmagician and eagleflyer!) I have also added an image for the crown to reflect as well.
Very interesting model - the roses are well done.
Again, try Cycles, just for comparison if anything.
If you keep to Blender Internal, try bringing down the brightness of the lamps, and maybe change the direction angle of their placement slightly to break up the symmetric shadow you have.
I would check the brightness of the secondary lamp, the primary and the tertiary lamps are great. The secondary may not be bright enough. I’m thinking you probably want softer shadows than you have there. Also, there’s the weird patch right next to the crown that should be in shadow but almost looks like it’s emitting light; that is not working at all. Definitely want to take a second look at that. If my description isn’t good enough, I’ll post an image of it circled, let me know.
It’s nice but i think it can be improved.
For the momment, it look bad, unrealistic for me.
But it can be improved !
You realy should convert it to the cycles render engine. It’ll look a lot more realistic. There’s a few gold marerial (for cycles) online. And you should also learn more about organic material. The roses look like they’re a mix between metal-plastic-and glass. Not realy realistic…
If you’ll use cycles, you can follow andrew price’s cherry blossom tutorial for learn about organic petals.
And also, try to make like a uniform background, without edge…because it doesn’t look so great.
Hope this helps.
And remember, it can be a wonderful and realistic render if you improve it !
If so, I think it is caused by the crown not resting fully on the surface below it; the light then shines from the third light creating this small window of light. I’ll have to look at this when I get access to my computer again.
I will also adjust lighting as well.
As for rendering in Cycles. When doing so, the reflection is lost. Now, I have looked at some tutorials at making reflections but these are for full blown mirrors with no colour. I presume to achieve what I want I would approach it the same way but add a colour and lower the settings? Could someone clarify?
