The Sun's surface is a voronoi texture

That isn’t a clickbait title, a telescope in Hawaii recently captured the highest resolution ever of the Sun’s surface and it really does look like a voronoi texture with some coordinate distortion.

And here we are, as artists, creating an ultra-bright ball of light (in our world shaders) to represent the sun. It is amazing how different everything can look when you get close enough.

The skybox artists on Destiny noticed!

(Jupiter in the Io skybox on Destiny 2 also has some very cool procedural textures to hold up when it fills the sky at 4K)

I could easily use this texture as skin or rocks. It has to do something with how the brain can match patterns here and there.
