The Tetrahedral Planetoid - after M.C. Escher

Started this last summer for a VR project and decided I should finish it. I spent way too much time on this one, LOL. Has all 56 inhabitants from the original. Still have to render to 6K which is gonna take somewhere around 9 hours. Hope you like! If you see anything off/missing/etc. please let me know. PS - this is a 2K render but BA is resizing to 1K for whatever reason.

Love it!

Always loved Escher.

You could copy the two existing sides to these two back sides and render a video of it rotating.

that is 6D view !

amazing work !

Thanks, appreciate that.

Oh hell no! It’s an hour a frame at low res… not really interested in animating it. And if I did the backsides would be agriculture and such.

Sorry… i didnt realise you were dealing with that kind of render time! I thought I was sugesting a quick way to add some movement.

Ive also been rebuilding MCE in Blender recently.

LOL, yeah my machine is a seven year old HP Z Book with no real graphics card. Have to CPU render. Blender has crashed on me twice this morning while I do tweaks. But my goal here is a wall hanging piece anyway, so it’s fine.

Great work on Relativity II. Cool animation. I’ve done Relativity, among others, but not that one.

Love this, pretty well made
A friend of mine introduced me to Escher’s work,
which I find fascinating to this day.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

Thank you Bart, although it wasn’t quite finished. Fixed a bunch of little things in the past couple days and rendering (hopefully) the final right now actually.

Sorry - I didn’t realize there was a focused critiques topic. I probably should have put this there.

Looks nice! Unfortunately for you, the back side is identical to my Tetrahedral Planetoid Blender model which has been available for download for over a decade and a half here: https://tetpln.tryop.com/
I don’t mind you building on it, and you’ve certainly added some textures and figures, but you really shouldn’t have passed my work off as your own.
That said, I’m interested to see your vision for completing the back side! I have a download of my version of the completed planetoid at the link above. You’re welcome to work from it if you like, though of course I suggest that you are honest where your work starts.

Yeah, no it’s not. Don’t be a dick

Well, here’s my base model, I have a few incremental versions of this. It is the same model so it’s gonna look similar, LOL. That being said, I was commissioned to make this for a VR app about Escher and your model was given to me to improve on. The Escher foundation is very picky and yours wasn’t close enough to the original. It’s nice but it’s missing a lot of detail. I didn’t just ‘add a few textures and figures’. So yes, your model provided some initial guidance. “Thanks”.
I have no plans to finish the back.

I explained, but thanks for that. I actually did sort of use his model. It was given to me as a base to improve on. I’d have said if anyone asked… I also didn’t mention it was for a VR app for the Escher Foundation. But it’s not really his model. I did use parts of it though. I don’t care at all what dude thinks though, I’ve spent over a thousand hours on this thing. Don’t put it on the internet for DL if you’re gonna bitch about people using it.
