Wow this is what I call the future of 3D scanning, think of the possibilities that blender artist can use with this kind of technology.
are you sure this isn’t fake?
looks too good to be true
It’s a Microsoft project and they showed it at Siggraph. Pretty hard to fake in front of a knowledgeable crowd. Where MS is headed with this is an open subject. That it seems to be a piece of their gaming platform suggests that they’re dead serious about bringing it to market.
something the same was with ROS ( http://nicolas.burrus.name/index.php/Research/KinectRgbDemoV6?from=Research.KinectRgbDemoV3 - maybe this is the same ?)
but more promising is what makes Oliver Kreilos http://www.idav.ucdavis.edu/~okreylos/ResDev/Kinect/ ( http://www.youtube.com/user/okreylos#p/u/4/5-w7UXCAUJE )
with the help of Nicholas Bishop http://vimeo.com/user565506 dual counturing remeshing - objects would be easy to export to blender.
better yet - this can be extended for very good motion capture
