Hello. This is normal behavior for the default unwrapping method. If you’d like a more appealing UV, I’d suggest using the unwrap type U → Smart UV Project.
Or if you’re going for a more maximum space method, use the U → Lightmap Pack unwrap type.
If you’re viewing from a 2D orthographic view, you can also use U → Project from View.
Or U → Project from View (Bounds).

I have now realized that for some objects the normal unwrapping method is sufficient. But not for all. I have now unwound my form with “Project from View”.
I still have to look at the other two with the specific settings. But for now it worked like this.

It could be that your object has non-uniform Scale.
While Project from View ignores that, regular unwrap works in the object’s Local coordinate system.
Object > Apply > Scale OR Ctrl + A > Scale to apply transform and make it uniform.
