"The Vault"

Hi all,

This is the start of something I’m working on.
“The Vault” is going to be some artwork for a song I’ve written called “Alone”.

The idea is that eventually I’ll produce my own CD cover with artwork for all the songs…in Blender and other apps.

I shall keep it updated as I go, but feel free to make any comments you like along the way.

28/3/03 Version 2: First upload to Elysiun.

Simply a space without any materials or textures added. I’ve endeavoured to get a “hazy light through the window” light going on although it was probably a little strange to start here rather than with with all the texturing etc… but then again - I’m strange.

Now, depending on which way I’m going to go, I could try modelling a naked woman lying on her side on the slab or just photograph a naked woman lying on her side. I haven’t made up my mind yet - although I’d really love to model her if I was able. I might try a for a while and see how far I can get.

Simple and nice.

I just wanted to say, in my honest opinion, it is always better to figure out the lighting before texturing. Soft gray materials, like the material you used, are also good for figuring out the proper lighting.
When trying to figure out the material colors (shaders) and texture BEFORE the lighting is what will give you problems. I can promise you that.

Cool. But what’s that black bit at the bottom? I like the halo effect. I hope your song goes well!

The black thing is the slab i guess? naked woman idea sounds cool, try and model it, maybe with make_Human? I like the feel of this scene… like to see what heppens next.

That’s correct. The black thing is the slab.

The light coming through the window was a bit of a challenge because I didn’t actually know how to get that effect. I actually just kept pressing buttons and rendering until it worked. :expressionless:

The scene is supposed to be quite cold and empty and the woman’s figure is supposed to be quite folorn and still. I was even thinking about modelling her as a stone figure/statue.

I think you can probably guess that the song is not a particularly happy one although it does have a very dramatic orchestral component.

I might have a look at that “make human” script mentioned to see if it can help me at all.

Hi there! This looks godd but I think that you maybe should add some noise/clods-texture to the volumetric light to add some feel of dust etc. because without that it will lok more like fog…
If you´re looking for a cold feeling, try blue lights (though very light-blue). That should do it.

Good luck, this is a very good start!

Hey thanks. Actually the light coming through the window is a tinge of very light blue. There is another lamp inside the room which I left white. I might play around with that and see if I like it.

Thanks for the advice about the dust particles. I’ll see if I can pull anything together. Dust is better than fog in this picture so you’re spot on.

looks a little plain…

Yes you’re right. That’s because it’s a vault.

And it’s not textured or anything yet. Just the beginning sketches and there’s a female body to add to it when I can work out how to model a female body.

Its powerful…makes me feel lonely and confined… shudder

Wow! Thanks for that. The first two lines of the song are:

“Struggling to breath in a room that we shared
With the walls closing in…”

So I’m really happy you feel claustraphobic looking at the pic. It means that I might have picked the right visualisation.

Of course the song is about a little more than just claustraphobic feelings, but it is about the emptiness and isolation of loss. But anyway - yadda yadda yadda, there’s no need to blab on forever about it.

yeah, post us an update already.

i wanna see the naked ladies  8)
