Hey everyone! Ive been working on a Minecraft animation(and no, i don’t put a keyframe every two seconds :D), while trying to keep a more intense atmosphere instead of the usual funny one that most people use. It is called The Void, and is the first episode out of three of a 30min long Minecraft movie :). I would like it to be critiqued, so i can make the second episode even better :D. Thanks if you watch it!
Does no one else have anything to add? If its because its a minecraft animation, i am working on a proper animation and most of the critiques would still apply. So please, anything as simple as “the mouth movements suck, heres a link” would be appreciated :).
Lol, I didn’t mean it that literally lol :D. Thanks for the tutorial though, and good point with the going through objects thing :). Thanks for commenting though, it’s good to know someone enjoyed watching it.
so, does anyone else have anything to say about the animation, or is it perfect lol :D(just kidding :D). Thanks Calzaath for being the only person to comment so far :D.
The jump at roughly 0:25 could use a bit of work. He seems to just float upwards. I’m not entirely sure how to fix that, but maybe try looking at some slow motion videos of people jumping.
Camera transitions are a bit rough, and the blur when you’re scrolling from scene to scene hurt my eyes a little. I’m not sure how to fix that though, as that’s not my strong point.
Also, with such a huge boss (the wither) I was expecting an epic fight scene. Not a slash, climb, and end it. That puny sword wouldn’t even break the skin of the Wither, much less go through its skull and then its brain.
Yeah, i agree, some of the animation was very sloppy at the beggining, i was just learning how to do it lol :D. With the camera transition, i made a separate thread about that, but it seems that the only way to fix that was to use multiple cameras, but i was so far into the project that it would have been quite a bit of work to set up :(. Just wondering, how would you suggest the boss fight should go? I just made it short because i didn’t want it to drag out, but should it have been longer?
Thanks for the comment though! :D. Also, one more thing, in my youtube analytics it seems that out of my 400 views or so about 90% of people stop watching within the first few seconds. Do you have any hints as to why this is? Thanks!
I would shrink the boss and make the bossfight longer, or maybe even only hint at the bossfight and not actually show it. That way it adds a bit of mystery to the whole thing.
And as for people not watching past the first few seconds I’m not sure, sorry.
I think its pretty dam good for the first time out, music, body movement, eye movement and lips talking, better then i could do at the moment . Im learning still, having a hard time rigging
The beginning. The excess amounts of motion blur actually stressed my eyes a little bit. When you were flying around in your town. Try turning that down a little bit. My eyes were trying to focus on something, anything at all really, but since nothing was in focus, I just kept looking around everywhere and it wasn’t that effective. So turn down the motion blur a bit.
Another thing, when he is walking around. The walk is too even and his knees bend way too much. Actually, it looks a bit like they are stretching or something of that sort. Try adding a little bit of bounce to his step (not too much), just keep it natural looking. Also, a slight head bob goes a long way on improving the look of your walk/run cycles. I did a tutorial a bit ago on this very topic of walk/run cycles not too long ago. It is for a little cartoon robot character, but the same concepts apply.
The main thing that really got me were the inconsistent sound levels actually. I found that I kept my fingers hovering over the sound level buttons because I was never sure when there would be a very loud sound effect. I would turn down the sound levels on the walking, especially in the grass.
Other than what has already been mentioned in previous comments, I think this should keep you busy for a while. Good luck.
Thanks everyone for the comments! Yes, lots of people seemed to have commented on the motion blur, so that’s something ill need to fix :). Ill have a look at that tutorial as well, hopefully i can get a better walk cycle from it. As for the audio levels, i think i forgot to turn off windows automatic volume adjustment while working on it, so i think that’s why it slipped past me in post :(. Ill turn it off for the next few parts :D. Thanks!
