The.Wasp [Retired for now]

more updates. im re-working the model. the center was too bulky and the UV map just wouldn’t work right…so im gonna make it more UV friendly.

While I like the new position of the “stinger”, I don’t like the arm that is holding it in place, the join just dosn’t look like it would work very well, nothing really holding it together, perhaps some more mechanical detail work on that. The new body is much more bee like then wasp and I actually prefered the original body style with the engine exhausts coming out of it better. This is a perfect example of why ZBrush and other paint in 3D app’s are so important, having to change your design to make it easier to color and texture really can take away from a model some times. :frowning: Also not really feeling the wings, though they may simply be placeholders atm they do need some attention. The face texture/material is hopefully not finished either, not really sure what the effect your going for is on that but it just looks like random spots of white. Other then that… Good modeling and can’t wait to see the next update.

well, my idea here is a kinda worn-out robo wasp. and as far as the details go(exhausts and such) they will be implemented back into the model. i just started re-modeling the body so(obviously) the changes haven’t been made yet.

One thing is disturbing me : the textures. I mean, the texture of the head is full of “details” but the rest of the body has some clean textures.
Is this difference of texturing temporary or not ?

Anyway this model is my favorite one.

uhm, yes. those textures are temporary. all of them actually…

Since it watched your last topic from start to finish, I’ll watch this one too…
My crits:
I think it’s really funny, I like it. The first design was more of innovation rather than “art”, yet it still could be considered art. But wouldn’t it be cool if it was real?
Personally I like all designes, maybe do like a montage of all the designs, like a community of “Wasps”, after all, each one could be different. (Just an Idea)

yeah, those are some excellent idea’s. here my personal idea to add to the list:

a really serene setting with the wasp hovering in the air in front of some huge monolithic object(tech-hive ?) i wante the whole thing to be really dark and such. with lots of glowing lights and things to in the background. i dunno. thats just whats going through my head. its hard to explain it in words.

That’s great! One thing though - I think you need, in some way, to represent the sharpness of the sting.

yeah, i’ve been pondering over this issue. that stinger has to be dangerous and mechanical all at the same time…

oh. this texturing has proven to be quite a tough thing to do. but i think i’ve figured out the whole UV mapping thing with organic models like this. so guess what.

if i can get enough support i’ll make another tutorial on UVmapping: Organic Models.

beg away

please do, and use lots of details too, all the ones that are out so far skip over all the hard parts like it’s a cake walk

Please make a uv tutorial that explains in complete detail for those who need it.

i.e. me

I second the tut. And good job, I think I like the origonal design more, but who cares. I really like your explaination of the scene, with the tech-hive and all, that sounds cool.

Keep goin’ man.

well, it seems like people are wanting the Tut. so i will have to provide it :]

here’s an update:

Looking good, reminds me of something from Reboot. (really liked that show)

I’d also like to see your methods for UV mapping him, I’m finding it hard to unwrap smooth models without the textures stretching.

new update. started working on the scene again.

here’s the new textures:

You models and designs improve every time. Nice work. Looks cool.

great work nehpets

I like the dirt look! making the wasp more powerfull, not just toy like.

great work!!
wished i could handle modelling AND texturing that well… %|

thanks for the comments guys :]
