it somehow doesn’t feel quite finished…any ideas why?

It has three focal points – figure, gate and creature, that aren’t well-connected by the rest of the composition. The figure looks very distorted, skewed or flattened in some odd way. Big stone on left doesn’t need to be there, is lit really flat, looks like an afterthought. Mid- & background lighting has a fairly small value range, needs more deep shadow areas imo, which would make the creature look less like it’s been pasted into place, since its deep contrasts don’t agree with most of the other lighting.
